Nova student picks up top award

Nova Hreod Academy / Categories: News

Everyone at Nova Hreod Academy was very proud as Year 11 Jessica Sprules won the Sportswoman of the Year Award at the United Learning Best in Everyone Awards ceremony in Stratford on Avon this weekend. The awards receive hundreds of nominations each year and were launched in 2012 to celebrate the outstanding achievements of secondary students across United Learning.

Jessica was nominated by her PE teacher for her contribution to school and extra curricular sport as well as her determination and pursuit of excellence in ice hockey and speed skating. Jessica, age 15, represented Team GB U18 ladies, where she awarded player of the match in her first game at the 2017 IIHF Women’s World Championships in Poland.

This year’s ceremony was held in Stratford-upon-Avon and Jessica went along with her parents to receive her award.

Ben Wilkinson, who nominated Jessica said:

“I am delighted that Jess has received this award. She is a positive role model as both a sporting ambassador for her school, club, and nation as well as responsible young woman managing the demands of school and the high levels of training required to perform at the top level as an elite sportswoman. She demonstrates a phenomenal skill level and consistently demonstrates a great attitude to all aspects of school and sport.

Jessica said:

I am grateful to Mr Wilkinson for nominating me for this award, it is a great feeling to have my efforts and dedication recognised. I wouldn't have achieved this award without the support of those around me. It was a lovely evening and it was a fantastic end to the academic year, being appreciated with my parents by my side."

Jon Coles, Chief Executive of United Learning, said:

“Each year, these awards recognise the remarkable achievements of students from across our Group and provide us with an opportunity to celebrate their talents, subject excellence and determination to succeed. Yet again, we had the difficult task of choosing winners from amongst a very impressive range of candidates nationally and I hope therefore that every award winner takes great pride in their success.
