Searching for resources and information in the LRC Catalogue

Miss, have you got anything on...?

Helpful hints on how to start using the Oliver library management system at Nova Hreod LRC.

Click on the ( i )OLIVER  icon on the desktop.

To search the catalogue for what we have available as text and internet weblinks for a topic, you can log in from any PC in school. This will allow you to search, to access your own account (current loans, renewals, overdues, reservations, alerts etc.) and to send requests and emails to the LRC.

Borrowing and returning LRC resources

As soon as you are enrolled in the Academy you will be able to borrow LRC resources for reading and homework support.

Each year group has a suggested guide to the number of titles to be borrowed at any one time, but this is a guide not a fixed limit. Keen readers are never disappointed. Titles are on loan to you which means they need to be returned for other students to enjoy.

When you borrow a title, the date it is due to be returned will be put on the date label to help remind you. If at any time your resources get damaged or are lost, you will be asked to pay for a replacement title.

What's going on in your LRC at Nova Hreod?

Today is a great day to learn something new!

Many of you will come into the LRC with your teacher to carry out research and find information on topics you are covering.

Students are welcome to come into the LRC and carry on with that research at Open Access sessions, where Mrs Fawcett will be on hand to offer some help if wanted.

But if you are suffering from information overload and want to chill out, the LRC is the cool place to be!  (Aircon included).

Browse the shelves for something to tempt you... surf the cyber waves for something startling... play a game with friends... or join the Boys Reading Only and Girls Reading Only group sessions... just come along any Tuesday - open to all year groups. If you are in years 8-11, you can train to be a Student Librarian. Collect an application form in the LRC.

Read, read and read some more in a comfortable atmosphere... 20 minutes personal reading every day has a direct linked positive impact on your achievable GCSE exam grades. You will improve your concentration stamina, vocabulary and problem solving skills all through reading.
