Science

Faculty Leader: Dr Jannine Clapp

In Science we have carefully sequenced our curriculum so that students can retain and apply key scientific knowledge throughout their time at Nova. The aim is to engender a fascination with science and to lead to success in their GCSE examinations and beyond.

Key Stage 3

The curricula in years 7, 8 and 9 follow the science national curriculum, with year 9 topics bridging between the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 curricula. As a department we have carefully designed knowledge organisers which outline the exact knowledge students are required to learn and remember.

Beyond the curriculum we have an extra-curricular offer for Science including a key stage 3 science club, invited guest speakers to talk about science beyond the classroom and various trips throughout the year.

Key Stage 4

Year 10 and 11 students are studying the AQA combined science specification (which is a double award GCSE) except for the students who have chosen triple science; they are completing AQA GCSEs in biology, chemistry and physics.

As a department we have carefully designed knowledge organisers which outline the basic knowledge students are required to learn and remember. We can also advise on which revision guides and books best support the relevant specifications.
