Parents Students

At Nova Hreod Academy, we take e-safety extremely seriously. We believe that it is the right of all students, parents and staff to feel safe and secure when using technology.

We teach students to use the internet and other technologies safely, and we show them how to behave in an appropriate manner. They know what to do if they feel uncomfortable with anything they see or hear either online or through other technology such as mobile phones.

It is important to encourage a healthy lifestyle with regard to the use of technology, and teach students about the risks of exposure to inappropriate content or too much time in front of a screen. We show them how to keep their data and security safe, and we teach them to be critical of the things they see online.

If a child feels uncomfortable or if they feel scared about anything online they can report it on CEOP or EPraise.

Please see our policies page for our technology policy and anti-bullying policy, which hold information about how we ensure our children remain safe in their use of technology.

We are contantly working hard to increase awareness amongst our students of the dangers of the internet.

Working with Parents and Carers

It is really important that parent's and carers work with us to ensure children stay safe in their use of technology. When we talk about e-safety, we are not just talking about the internet. We are talking about the use of computers, games consoles (such as X-Box or Playstation), mobile devices, such as phones and tablets, televisions and many other things. There are several elements to e-safety that we teach at Nova Hreod:

  • How to use the internet safely, and what to do if something goes wrong or we see something we shouldn't
  • How to keep ourselves safe - keeping our details private and keeping our data secure.
  • How to behave when using technology - being courteous and responsible, and what to do if others treat us in a way which is not kind.
  • Encouraging a healthy use of technology - not over-using mobiles, consoles or computers.

All students at Nova Hreod Academy receive e-safety training through PSHE lessons and assemblies to help keep them safe in an ever evolving technological world.
