The Hub: A Guide for Students

The Hub is Nova’s pastoral, behaviour and attendance centre. This is where House Managers are based. They are available to offer pastoral support to Nova students at any time.

The Hub is the place to go if you have any concerns about how school is going for you, or you have personal issues that you want to discuss and share with a member of staff. You should also report to The Hub if you are experiencing friendship issues or feel you are being bullied and need some support. The staff in The Hub will help you resolve issues like this, and work with you to restore your friendships.

The majority of contact home goes through The Hub. Your parents/carers may be contacted about behaviour issues, attendance and lateness, problems being equipped for school and personal issues. The Hub works closely with agencies outside the school to support you fully.

The Hub: A Guide for Parents

On a day-to-day basis, your child will have a number of members of staff who they can draw on for support. Their teachers and tutor will be important to them, and we have a dedicated pastoral team based in The Hub. The Hub is Nova’s pastoral, behaviour and attendance centre. This is where House Managers are based; they play a pivotal role in the pastoral aspects of Nova. They are available to offer pastoral support to Nova students at any time.

If and when you hear from the school, more often than not this will be contact from a member of The Hub team. They should be your point of contact for any concerns or information needed regarding safeguarding, attendance, punctuality, behaviour and any personal issues you’d like to discuss. The Hub team work closely with outside agencies and are able to instigate support from the police, children’s services, mental health practitioners, the school nurse, education welfare and other youth support organisations. You should ask to be referred to The Hub if you need to contact the school about any of these issues.

Nova’s Designated Safeguarding Lead is Penny King, Assistant Principal. The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead is Emma Stephen, House Manager for Orion House. The other house managers, along with the Headteacher and Executive Principal, make up the remainder of the safeguarding team. The safeguarding policy can be found here.
