Barbara Freeman / Categories: News

After 10 weeks of enthusiastic reading and logging onto the Read For My School programme, Nova Hreod celebrated our fabulous Year 7 readers with an awards ceremony and podcast event with author Jeff Kinney, who revealed the cover and title of his 10th Diary of a Wimpy Kid which will be published in November.

The participants have shown great enthusiasm for the initiative, with the winning student reading an impressive 88 titles since the launch of the programme. The two runners up got through an incredible 138 books between them! Certificates and book tokens were presented to all the winning students and they were all awarded Nova Stars for taking part.

Nova students have contributed to an increase in regular reading for fun using the LRC book stock which is updated regularly with the best in new writing. The daily 20 minute reading time in key stage 3 has seen an increase in the variety and numbers of books being borrowed from the LRC stock. Year 7’s recent participation in Read For My School saw our youngsters transformed from occasional to dedicated readers. Along with Tuesday’s Reading Fever Café sessions running in the LRC at break and lunchtime all students' reading habits are encouraged and celebrated.
