Nova really does have talent

Fantastic variety show wows the judges

Barbara Freeman / Categories: News

Dynamic” “Mind blowing” “Professional” “A-MAZ-ING” - just some of the comments from our judges as our students performed to a 200-strong audience at Nova’s Got Talent.

From the minute the show opened with an enthusiastic dance performance, until the very last act, the judges were stunned by the high standard from the competitors. Some of the parents in the audience even shed a few tears!

At the end of the night the panel of judges deliberated and argued over the vast amount of talent that they had seen. They had to come up with a winner and they chose the group that they thought gave a superb and captivating performance. Prizes of iTunes vouchers were awarded, and the winning act received VIP tickets to see The Vamps in London.

Congratulations to:

1st Place: Jess Hunt and Lucia Gutierrez

2nd Place: Kate Matthews and Jade Walters

3rd Place: KC Brillantes

Our thanks to Haydn Foggitt and Jaime Gessey who helped backstage and supported the evening, to the panel of judges who had a very difficult job and gave some constructive feedback, and also to Miss Worthington, Miss Fegan, Mr Berry and Mr Gray who we could not do this without.

Here’s the full breakdown from Mrs Lewis:

Its 7pm, the students are nervous and they are waiting patiently in the drama studio to get on stage and show the 200-strong audience what they are made of.  The nerves and worry intensify as the lights go off and the stage lights come on, opening the Nova’s Got Talent show...

1st Act: 'Hard Knock Life' Players: Jessie Lyon, Amalie Duperon, Giovanna Memisevic, Bryony Argrave, Abby Lloyd

Judges comment: Really good opening to the show. Lots of enthusiasm and stage presence.  Thought Amalie and Abby specifically had excellent facial expressions and really wowed the audience.

2nd Act: 'Writing’s on the Wall' Players: Maisey Fry

Judges comment: Maisey has a fantastic and mature voice for her age.  She performs with amazing confidence and is brilliant to watch.

3rd Act: 'Dancers Mash up' Players: Maisey Relph, Molly Packer and Alcides Fernandes

Judges comment: I loved the mash up of the different dance styles and the way that you showcased all of those skills.  Alcides was fantastic and had excellent stage presence.

4th Act: 'No one' Players: Jade Walters and Kate Matthews

Judges Comment: Kate has a very powerful voice and it was beautifully sung.  She is very confident on stage and captivating to watch.  Jade played the song flawlessly and they have been performing together a long time and the chemistry between the acts showed.

5th Act: 'All of me' Players: KC Brillantes

Judges Comment: KC has a beautiful voice and we really felt every note that he sang.  He was confident and moved around the stage.  A wonderful performance from someone so young.

6th Act: 'I've got the magic in me' Players: Katie-May Hall

Judges Comment: Mr Stewart got involved in the performance for this one and was wowed by Katie's joke telling and magic skills.  Katie performed a standard pick a card any card trick that was very well received by the audience.

7th Act: 'Don't let me drown' Players: Clarissa Boyce

Judges Comment: Clarissa took a risk choosing a rock song and it paid off.  She sang the song beautifully and really showcased her talent to the audience.  The judges want to see her with a band behind her next time.

8th Act: 'Valerie' Players: Lucia Gutierrez and Jess Hunt (ft Mr Berry)

Judges Comments: Lucia was nervous to start but shouldn't have been she has a beautiful voice and really showcased that to the audience.  Jess sang beautifully in harmony and both of the girls’ voices complemented each other. It was lovely to see student and staff working together to put on such a fantastic show.

9th Act: 'I see fire' Players: Dominic Jackson

Judges Comments: Dominic really felt his performance and the passion he showed in the song was excellent. Dominic has star quality about him and was captivating to watch.

10th Act: 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' Players: Kane Oakley (ft Mr Gray and Mr Berry)

Judges Comments: Kane was fantastic, especially considering he is only in Year 8. Can’t wait to see him with a band behind him.
