A Courtroom drama for Year 9 team

Students compete in mock trial

Barbara Freeman / Categories: News

Our group of Year 9 students competed in a mock trial in a real courtroom at Chippenham Magistrates Court. The heats were of exceptionally high quality with our team facing last year’s national champions and the runners up as opponents.

Nova’s prosecuting team shone in round one, not needing any prompting nor reading scripted questions and answers (unlike some of the other teams!). In the afternoon our team defended against the national champions and won the verdict.

The team had worked incredibly hard over the past few months and put up a good case in both legs. Mr Stewart was extremely proud of them, especially as this was their first competition; their performance was testament to the hard work that had gone into preparing for the case.  Sadly our team didn’t qualify for the next round although we were pipped to the post by the team that we had beat in the morning case.
