School staff are encouraged to integrate careers education into their curriculum, linking it with the progression routes for subjects and the relevance of knowledge and skills for various work environments. This can be achieved through enrichment opportunities such as visiting speakers, employers and alumni, as well as mentoring, workshops and other enterprise schemes.
It is important to tailor this to the needs of each young person, particular those with special educational needs and disabilities. Equally important is parent engagement in planning and sharing information to support career guidance.
School staff should help learners make information decisions about their education, training and career paths.
Teachers play a crucial part in careers guidance by:
· Breaking down gender, cultural and socioeconomic barriers
· Challenging stereotypes and promoting equality
· Encouraging all students to pursue their aspirations without bias
· Inspiring students to study their subject beyond school
· Talking about jobs related to their subject
· Discussing the relevance of their subject to the wider world
· Responding encouragingly to questions and concerns about their future
· Directing students to useful career resources

Focus on the 2025 updates which emphasize the importance of encounters with employers and experiences of the workplace for students. This will mean students are better prepared for their future careers and will improve their overall career readiness.
Remember incorporating careers information and guidance into lessons improves motivation, raises aspirations and makes lessons relevant. This is an important part of their personal and social development.
