Home Study

Overview

Our vision is that students at Nova Hreod will have a better chance of success than if they attended any other school in the country because we care for your child’s future. It has been shown that in the highest-achieving schools in the country, students from Year 7 onwards can expect more than an hour of home study per day and even more once they reach Year 10. We want our Nova students, your children, to make greater progress than these students. Independent home study plays a vital part in helping students retain and recall the facts that enable tough problem solving and the practicing of vital skills in all subjects.

At KS3 students are set approximately 60 minutes each of home study in English, maths, science, French and humanities. At KS4 students are set up to 90 minutes of home study in each of the core subjects (English, maths and science) and 60 minutes of home study in each of their option subjects. The home study is set following the timetables below and students always have one week to complete their work, which is due in by 7.30 am on the day specified. Additional details about the home study being set can be found on Arbor.
