Being Nova

At Nova, all our students flourish academically and personally in an aspirational and supporting environment

We believe that everyone finds a sense of purpose and fulfilment when they feel they are a part of something bigger than themselves - a larger and more significant whole. At the heart of Nova's ethos and culture, giving us this sense of purpose, are our four DISC values: Drive, Integrity, Scholarship and Contribution.

On this page we want to share the culture of Nova within school and in our local community. We have devised different themes centred around our key values of Drive, Integrity, Scholarship and Contribution throughout our assembly programme across the academic year.

Being Nova: It's who we are; it's what we do.

Supporting charities

Each house at Nova Hreod Academy has selected a charity to support

We have four house based charities where our students can convert their DISC points into charitable donations. This highlights the value of Contribution in the wider life of the school. The four charities are

Cygnus House students chose to donate their DISC points to Help for Heroes, which is a national charity to aid ex-servicemen and women.
Pegasus House support local charity Alternative Angels, which provides hot meals for homeless and vulnerable people in Swindon.
Aquila House's chosen charity is Diabetes UK, a national charity providing research and support for people with Diabetes.
Orion House supports CALM, a local charity that cares for the needs of families within the Swindon & Marlborough NHS Trust who have, or have had, children or young people with cancer.

Celebrating Diversity

At Nova Hreod Academy we encourage everyone to support diversity within our community and throughout the academic year, we will be holding four diversity days which will link to both our World Around Us programme and our assembly themes for that week.

These dates will aim to raise the profile of particular events, providing. national recognition and celebration days.

The World Around Us

We feel strongly that students should be given the opportunity to consider and discuss aspects of the world around them.

Each week our students get the opportunity to discuss a given theme that reinforces our assembly programme for that week. For example, at the start of term we debated whether it was a good idea to travel abroad during the pandemic. At the end of each session students vote to express their opinion. In the following week, students are able to see what the different tutor groups voted for in terms of the discussion opportunities based around last week's World Around Us topic.
