If you've changed your mind about your Post-16 destination, the link below contains details of apprenticeships that are available locally. Vacancies are available in Civil Engineering, Childcare, hospitality and various other industries. 

Apprenticeship opportunities starting September 2021


As an Ofsted Grade 1 “Outstanding” employer, we are pleased to announce that we are releasing many Apprenticeship vacancies across England, Scotland and Wales. 

Our opportunities will provide students with a chance to undertake a Level 2 Autocare Apprenticeship with one of our many ETEL brands; Kwik-Fit, Tyre City, Tyre Pros and Central Tyre.

We provide full support for our learners with our state-of-the-art training facilities, dedicated assessors, and e-learning facilities. During the Apprenticeship we also provide dedicated support and learning to students in Functional Skills English and Maths.

We are one of the very few providers of Automotive Apprenticeships which offer a guaranteed full-time position to our Apprentices, upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship programme.

Preparing for Post 16: What can you do now?

All of you can access a set of resources called PiXL Independence using the following link: https://students.pixl.org.uk

You will need the information below to log in.

Once you have logged on, your screen will look like this.

Select the Years 10 and 11 GCSE option to the left which will take you to this screen.

From here, you can access a range of resources which will help prepare you for next academic year.

The Cornell notes page will teach you how to take effective notes – an incredibly useful skill for your studies after Year 11.

The Year 11-12 Progression booklets cover an incredibly broad range of qualifications which you will have chosen to study from Year 12 onwards. Using these resources will put you ahead of other students when you begin your new qualifications in September. They will make you feel more confident as you’ll be better prepared. Each pack contains some activities, links to helpful websites and a project which you would be able to complete from home. 

The third section, Year 12 induction videos, will give you a flavour of what life will be like at sixth form or college.

In addition to this, if you want to really impress the course leaders you meet in September, you could also try the following activities. 

  • New College are introducing a new initiative called Kick Start, to support the year 11 students that are joining them in September. If you follow this link>>> it will take you to the Kick Start page. Simply enter the subject/subjects that you will be studying next year and it will take you to the related page. Here you are able to download information and work packs that will support you with your chosen subject and provide you with a headstart to your course at New College.
     
  • You could take a part in a MOOC (Massive Online Open Course) which can be accessed through a range of sites such as https://www.futurelearn.com/courses and www.coursera.org 
     
  • You could look at The Brilliant Club resources here >>>. This site contains a wide range of resources for students on academic subjects as well as on future academic study at university.
