Prospectus 2016 - page 7

We value and respect every child as an individual and to this end we endeavour to ensure that our
students receive the very highest standard of pastoral care and support.
Every student has a form tutor who is their first line of support in school, overseen by a Head of Key
Stage. We have dedicated child safeguarding and SEND teams and pastoral care includes rigorous
attendance and punctuality checks.
All students are given a planner to help organise their learning and to aid communication between
home and school. Awards are presented for outstanding work and commitment to school life and
students are rewarded for attendance with visiting live bands and trips.
We want all our students to achieve more than they ever believed possible.
Support is available for all aspects of literacy, numeracy, social and organisational
skills, and students are identified through an innovative on-site screening programme.
Staff are supported with detailed information on students with specific educational needs
or disabilities, or who are gifted and talented in one or more areas. The advice includes teaching
adjustments so that differentiated provision is consistent across classes and subject areas.
Portfolio Leaders work in the classroom and run small group interventions to help students to catch up.
Extra support is provided at Breakfast Club and Homework Clubs. Our dedicated SEN base provides a safe
and supportive environment for meeting additional needs.
"The SEN base is really
good because the staff
are friendly and it’s a
calm place to be”
