Prospectus 2016 - page 8

Nova Hreod Academy is part of United Learning – a Multi Academy Trust which aims to provide
excellent education to children and young people across the country.
As part of a group, we can offer more to staff and young people than a single school could offer alone.
We are able to share best practice with schools across the country and our staff benefit from the
group’s wide range of high quality professional development opportunities.
Our ethos underpins the United Learning core values:
*
Ambition – to achieve the best for ourselves and others;
*
Confidence – to have the courage of our convictions and to take risks in the right cause;
*
Creativity – to imagine possibilities and make them real;
*
Respect – for ourselves and others in all that we do;
*
Enthusiasm – to seek opportunity, find what is good and pursue talents and interests;
*
Determination – to overcome obstacles and reach success.
In order to ensure that each and every one of our students can succeed, we promise:
*
to be a great place for students to be and for parents to have their child educated;
*
to have a personalised curriculum to match a deeply complex learner profile;
*
every student is of consequence and no student is left behind.
“Nova Hreod … where behaviour is now top priority. There’s a real expectation
that youngsters behave well
;
they come to school on time, they bring the right
books, they are ready to learn, and as a result they’ve seen a doubling of GCSE
results in 2015.”

Family and community engagement is a vital part of a successful school and
involvement in the local community helps build confidence and personal development.
Our Student Council have led a number of activities and events, including fundraising for the
local food bank and hosting a tea dance for residents of a local care home. Our facilities are used
by local groups for activities such as sports training and drama coaching.
We offer our students opportunities to work with children from other schools in a range of curricular
and extra-curricular activities. Events such as the regular STEM events that we host enable our learners
to develop leadership and coaching skills when working with primary pupils in a safe and competitive
environment.
We regularly welcome staff from local businesses into school to talk to our students about careers
opportunities and employability skills, and our mentoring scheme gives them the opportunity to meet
students from local colleges and find out more about further and higher education. The launch of our
alumni scheme has welcomed a number of former students back to school to give assemblies and
deliver workshops which are designed to raise our students’ aspirations.
Our most important partnership is the one we have with parents and carers. We encourage them to play
an active role in the education of their child. We communicate with parents regularly about their child’s
progress through reports and student planners. We are fortunate to have a very supportive network of
parents who offer their time to help out with productions and events.
