Support for students with Special Educational Needs

Nova Hreod Academy is committed to high standards and high achievement for all. For us, a Specific Educational Need is not a barrier to excellence, or an excuse for low aspirations. We welcome students with Statements/EHC Plans as well as those on lower level intervention, and only refuse admission if there is a clear case that we cannot meet a young person’s needs. This is extremely rare, and we pride ourselves on our inclusive ethos.

The SENCO is a qualified, highly-experienced teacher and senior member of staff, and holds the National Award for SEN. All SEN staff are also exam invigilators and support the students with access arrangements during exams. In addition, many of our Teaching Assistants have qualifications in SEN, such as Higher Level Teaching Assistant status, NVQ Level 3 and a wide variety of certified courses in specific issues such as dyslexia, autism and complex educational needs. Where there is a need to seek expertise from other professionals, we do not hesitate to do so.
