Science of the Mind
Fifteen Year 10 students had a fantastic opportunity to attend an event at the Guildhall in London on Tuesday 5
th
May. After an extremely
early start and a trek across London on the tube, we arrived at the magnificent Guildhall. The event began with Emma Kilford (keynote
speaker) who delivered a lecture on ―The Adolescent Brain.‖ The students were then allocated into groups to follow a carousel of
workshops and discussions led by neuroscientists from the University College London. The workshops included topics such as gender,
brain structure and function, neuroimaging and optical illusions. After lunch, a second lecture was delivered on the subject of ―What is
imitation and why do we do it?‖
The students commented;
―I learnt there are different types of brain scan that do different things such as MRI and MEG.‖
―I found the workshop on neuroimaging the most interesting!‖
―The brain uses its full potential not just the common misconception that we use 10% of our brain!‖
―I found the table discussions most interesting because I learnt a lot and mixed with other schools‖
Points Mean Prizes for healthy eaters
The two winners of the Elior healthy eating competition have been enjoying
their prizes of a brand new mountain bike each. Students have been earning
points by choosing the healthy options in the Stellar Diner since the start of
the year and the boy and girl with the most points were presented with their
prizes earlier this month.
The two students are pictured here with their prizes.
