Swindon Secondary School‘s Patron of Reading and
Writing
recently launched the
Patron‘s Writing Ambassadors
Award
to encourage and celebrate creative writing as poetry or prose. The
theme for the writing challenge was selected by the Patron after
meeting up with Dame Lawrence who inspired him to pick
Tolerance as the theme for the activity.
Nova Hreod students produced some very thought-provoking poetry
and short stories. Harry (Year 8) and Maisey (Year 7) were selected to have their poetry
entries sent forward to the Swindon-wide judging.
We are proud to announce that Maisey was awarded Runner-Up and as a result, she is
now a
Writing Ambassador
for Nova Hreod Academy
.
Well Done to Harry and Maisey for their achievement.
‘Tolerance’
By Maisey (Year 7)
This is not a perfect world.
We see things every day that make us take a
second look
or make us turn away.
The heart of man has turned to stone and
compassion is not found.
We‘ve taken our love and friendship
and beaten them to the ground.
No longer do we hope.
All our dreams once so clear have changed and
wilted in the climate of fear.
Let’s end this reign of violence and halt these
evil designs.
We are in this as one human race, so please,
reach out and let us all call out
’cease’ to the malice and pain.
One day I believe we’ll hear sweet music rising
out of the rain.
So as you kneel to your God and pray for a
better life for all.
Ask that tolerance and peace will be written
visible upon every wall in this perfect world
.
‘Tolerance’
By Harry (Year 8)
We are all born
In a different way,
How we look
And what we say
From different countries
Around the world
Of different genders
Boys and girls
Of many sizes
And colours too
The things we like
And the things we do
We’re sure glad
It works this way
The world is colourful
In every way.
If everyone
Were the same, you see
You wouldn’t be you
And I would be me.
