App Competition Update
Since winning
in January, Amy, Charlotte
and Shaina have been working
hard developing the app, ready
for launch on the App Store in
September. The girls have
written the content for the App
following the KS1 and 2
National Curriculum for Maths.
They have been fortunate to work
with Carl Sharman, the United
Learning Technology Software Developer
who has written the coding to make
the App work and Victoria Russell
Robbins, United Learning Project
Lead (Student Experiences)
who has co-ordinated all the
stages of design.
The App was tested by Year 5
parents at our Open Morning
which was the first time that the
girls saw their design up and
running.
Stepping Stones
On 16

April, we welcomed Oxford Brookes University to
work with Year 8s as part of the Stepping Stones university
awareness course.
Hannah Rose-Ford and six OBU Ambassadors came along, each
working with a small group of our Year 8s. Students were involved
in sessions on: '
breaking down barriers to learning
,‘ ‗
identifying
personal strengths
,‘ ‗
the benefits of going to university
‘ and
demystifying myths and misconceptions about university
.‘
Each of the sessions lasted an hour and were very engaging. The
students took an active part in the work and the Ambassadors from
Oxford Brookes were very complimentary about the Academy. We
were delighted that Year 8 students left the sessions saying that
they felt a future University
course is a realistic option
for them.
