This September, Nova Hreod Academy welcomed guests to its annual Open Evening, a lively showcase of the school’s academic achievements, extracurricular offerings, and future ambitions.
The event offered visitors a chance to explore the classrooms, meet staff and students, and experience the dynamic learning environment that defines the school.
Principal James Harding-Mbogo gave a warm welcome to the guests and delivered a presentation which celebrated the school’s recent academic achievements, shared the school’s commitment to nurturing kindness, excellence and hard work, and explained about the school’s aim to give everyone the best possible chance of success. He was joined on stage by School Captains Harry and Abby, who spoke confidently and positively about their school from a student perspective.
Visitors praised the welcoming atmosphere and the enthusiasm of staff and student guides. Year 6 pupil Olivia, who attended with her parents, said, “I loved the science lab and we got to see a real heart dissected, it was so cool.”
Olivia’s mum said, “the student guides we met were a credit to the school and it was great for my child to be able to have a lesson while we went to the talk, and to interact with students walking around the classrooms.”
Highlights of the evening included:
· Year 10 student Layla opened the evening with a wonderful piano recital in the atrium.
· A talk from the School Captains Harry and Abby.
· School Captains and Prefects led tours of the building, offering candid insights into life at the Academy.
· Students were able to attend a trial lesson during the parent presentation.
· The drama room was alive with excitement as children took part in an acting workshop.
· The atmosphere in the science department was electric as students took part in hands-on experiments and explored real pigs’ hearts and lungs.
· Free samples of school meals were available in the Stellar Diner.
Mr Harding-Mbogo said: “Open Evening is a fantastic opportunity for prospective students and their parents to see our wonderful school for themselves, and for us to highlight the vibrant learning environment, passionate staff, and wide-ranging opportunities that make our school truly special.”
At the end of the evening, students were presented with a small gift as a token of appreciation for their attendance and a keepsake to remind them of their experience.
The deadline for entry to Year 7 is 31st October 2025. The school is offering further opportunities to see the school, with a series of open mornings in October, which include tours of the school during a working day.
