On the first Friday of term, 50 Year 8s braved the cold and made their way to the Tower of London for a day packed with centuries of History.
Along with Mr Silvester, Mrs Freeman, Ms Hickton, Miss Manterfield, and Miss Sayers, year 8 spent the day exploring the castle. They saw everything from the 17th century gold-plated armour of Charles I and the £300 million Koh-i-noor diamond in the Crown Jewels to the Beauchamp Tower, in which famous criminals, Ronnie and Reggie Kray, were imprisoned in the 1950s. Unfortunately (or possibly fortunately!), year 8 did not manage to find the spectral bear who is said to haunt the Martin Tower. However, they did meet some of the Tower’s famous ravens and saw a sculpture of the polar bear, given to King Henry III in 1252, who was allowed to swim in the Thames for his lunch.
Year 8 were absolutely superb throughout the day and were truly a credit to the school. Particular congratulations are in order for some of our Year 8s who were the winners of the quiz competition which they took part in throughout the day:
1st place: Alice and Amelia with an incredible 28/30
2nd place: Jake with an incredible 27/30
3rd place with 23 points: Zoe, Annabel, Filip, Ryan and Darcie (who shared the chocolate prize!)
