Class of 2015 returns to school

Celebration evening for Nova leavers

Barbara Freeman / Categories: News

The class of 2015 returned to Nova Hreod to receive their GCSE certificates at an awards ceremony where we celebrated their achievements.

The evening began with refreshments in the atrium where students and their parents were able to catch up with each other, some for the first time since leaving school. The choir entertained everyone with a selection of songs and the audience even joined in with some of them!

Miss Culling welcomed everyone into the theatre and remarked on how fantastic everyone looked. The formal ceremony was opened by the Principal, Mr Barton, who gave a brief address before presenting the GCSE certificates and awards. At the end of the proceedings, the Mayor of Swindon, Councillor Andrew Bennett, thanked everyone at Nova Hreod for inviting him along to take part in the celebrations and congratulated the students on their successes. Councillor Bennett remarked on how immensely proud he is of the progress being made by young people in Swindon.

Ben Parnell, Executive Principal of Nova Hreod Academy, closed the evening by remarking on how proud we can be of these young people, that the media can be quite negative about teenagers but there are a lot of young people who work hard to get ahead. He admitted to the audience that he used to tell Nova students about how proud he was of the successes of the young people in other schools that he worked at but now goes to other schools telling them about the successes of Nova Hreod students.

It was a joy to hear how well the students are getting on in their next steps and we look forward to keeping in touch with them.
