Nova CCF students battle the elements on Salisbury Plain

Barbara Freeman / Categories: News

A group of Year 11 Nova Hreod students have immersed themselves fully into the Combined Cadet Force spirit at Marlborough College. Every Wednesday the CCF cadets arrive at school in their full CCF uniform and practice drill techniques in the Atrium during roll call. On Wednesday afternoons they meet up with the CCF students at Marlborough College.

This term they have been learning about weapon handling and they will take their weapon handling test after Christmas. The term ended with a paintballing trip where they were able to practice their new-found skills in a less demanding environment!

On the weekend of 15th/16th November, our cadets braved the wind and rain on Salisbury Plain for a special CCF self-reliance exercise which involved map reading and weapon handling. After a presentation from the 1st Battalion the Rifles, they had to set up their own camp, (sleeping under a ‘Basher’ that they had to build), prepare their own military rations, and carry out night manoeuvres and patrols.

The CCF students all had a great time and were fantastic ambassadors for the school.
