Nova Hreod Choir performs at Wembley Arena

An amazing day at Voice in a Million

Barbara Freeman / Categories: News

On Wednesday 11th March 2015 the Nova Hreod choir journeyed down the M4 motorway to Wembley SSE Arena to take part in Voice in a Million with 6,500 pupils from other schools all over the country, forming one of the largest, if not the biggest, children’s choir in the world.

The 17 pupils that make up the Choir have shown great dedication and commitment over the last couple of months, attending rehearsals 3 lunchtimes each week as well as working independently at home with a rehearsal CD. It was definitely worthwhile as their input certainly helped to raise the roof of the SSE Arena.

After leaving school at 10am the group arrived in London slightly early and took some time to enjoy lunch on the coach. When the time came, they were at the head of the queue and first through the doors of Wembley Arena. Although this gave them some downtime before rehearsals started in earnest, Nova’s choir remained upbeat, positive and immaculately behaved whilst getting used to their new surroundings.

During the afternoon rehearsals, everyone in the arena was treated to hearing the rehearsal and sound check of the special guests Alesha Dixon and Britain’s Got Talent’s Bars and Melody.

The evening concert started at 7.30pm with all choir members poised and ready to sing their hearts out, and sing and dance they did, with out-and-out passion for every second of the concert. Our choir were brilliant! When they weren’t singing they were superb audience members soaking up the entire atmosphere and giving out as much in enthusiasm as they received. Seeing Alesha Dixon and Bars and Melody on stage were real highlights for many members of our choir and indeed the entire Arena, and it just served to make what was already a special day for everyone, for a special cause, that much more memorable.

At the end of a very long day, the well-mannered Nova Hreod Choir made their way back to the coach through the thousands who were also flocking out of the Arena, before the long journey home after an incredible day.

Nova Hreod choir - you were amazing!

Voice in a Million is part of a project that started in 2009 to raise awareness of children worldwide that are orphaned, abandoned or separated from their birth parents and in need of a loving family home. In light of this, Nova Hreod Academy has a young group of pupils to be especially proud of in all the hard work that went in to achieving their contribution to an amazing event.
