Samuel scoops Nova chess title

Nova Hreod Academy / Categories: News

The 2019 Nova chess championships recently concluded, with almost 30 students taking part in this year's competition.

Following his runner-up performance last year, Year 10 Samuel (Cygnus 1) went one better this time and claimed the title of school champion with a very impressive score of six wins from seven games. Jacob (Cygnus 2) finished second with a very creditable five wins, half a point ahead of Oriol (Pegasus 4) in third. Oriol also claimed the best-newcomer prize for the highest score of a Year 7 student, narrowly edging out Theo (Orion 6) in a nail-biting tie-breaker.

The school chess championships have been held as part of the Delancey School's UK Chess Challenge, with over 1,200 schools and 40,000 students taking part this year. Several Nova students will now go on to compete in the regional finals after Easter and we wish them the very best of luck!
